Hello to Second Class

Hello Children and Parents,

I hope that you are all keeping well and enjoying the good weather. I am disappointed that I won't be able to see you for a while but I hope that you are looking after your mums and dads and your brothers and sisters. I'm sure that you are completing a little school work and doing lots of other interesting things.

I have been listening to the radio, watching tv and checking the newspapers and I know that there are lots of people in Ireland and the rest of the world helping us to stay busy and active and happy during this unusual time.

Here's a list of a few...

*Cosmic Yoga for Kids on YouTube

*#wewilldraw with Will Sliney(Marvel illustrator)

*Sarah Webb#BrightSparksCreative Bursts-series of short writing workshops suitable for your age group.

*mathsweek.ie have some activities that you can complete with a little help from mum or dad.

*PE with Joe Wicks on YouTube

The Duolingo app is a great help if you would like to practice your irish....or learn another language. I have used it with different classes.

On Thursday March 12th I gave an outline of some work for you. You can continue with it and/ or do some of the following work.

1. Handwriting - Find a poem about Easter or one of your choice and use your lovely handwriting to write it out on a page and decorate a border around it.

2. Maths - some practical work on measurement which I will outline later.

3. Design and make a House/ Home for the Easter Bunny.

Make it colourful and waterproof. Make it interesting and comfortable for the Easter Bunny. It's up to you. You are very creative. I wonder how many Easter Eggs the Easter Bunny will bring.

4. Do a little bit of gardening with mum , dad and your family. Plant some flower seeds and watch them grow. Don't forget to take care of them.

I wonder how your projects are going for you. I look forward to seeing them.

Measurement Work

A. Use the following items- straws, lollipop sticks, copybooks to measure the length and width of your kitchen table, television, front door, your bed. Make a list of the results and see which item is the longest and the widest?

( You are allowed to use other small items to measure if you don't have the items listed)

B. Cut a metre long piece of string. Use this to measure different things in your house eg. door, kitchen table, sofa, bedroom, garden.

Which is the longest? Which is the shortest? Which one is the widest?

C. Use you ruler to measure the length and width of your homework copy, lunchbox, a cushion, your library book.

Which is the longest/ widest?

Which way of measuring is the most fun?

Which way is the most accurate?

I have planted potatoes for us at my allotment. I hope that we will be able to share the harvest in the summer.

I will be planting some sunflower seeds for all of you in the coming week and I will take care of them inside over the coming weeks. We will need them to help us to celebrate our Growing Up day.

We all love colourful butterflies. I will order some butterfly larvae in the coming weeks from Insect Lore. I will look after them until I see you.

Please take care of yourselves. Enjoy the Easter eggs.

Special Birthday Wishes to Jannat, Kyle and Eric who will be celebrating their birthdays next week.
