Well-being ideas

Hello sixth class,

Here are some ideas of things to do on Thursday and Friday.

1. Connect with other people

Face time or call a friend, go for a walk with someone, have a socially distant picnic.

2. Be physically active

Go for a cycle, a walk, a short jog. Practise whatever sport you like. Get outdoors in the beautiful sunshine. You could try some yoga- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPK9WNtpBgk

Being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness. Evidence also shows it can also improve your mental well-being by:

  • raising your self-esteem

  • helping you to set goals or challenges and achieve them

  • causing chemical changes in your brain which can help to positively change your mood.

3.Create something/ practise a skill

You could draw or paint, work on a DIY project, try a new craft, bake or cook something .

Here is a nice recipe for cookies - https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/vintage-chocolate-chip-cookies

You could also make another well-being rock like the ones we painted in school earlier this year!

4. Give to others

Research suggests that acts of giving and kindness can help improve your mental well-being by:

  • creating positive feelings and a sense of reward

  • giving you a feeling of purpose and self-worth

Some examples of the things you could try include:

  • saying thank you to someone for something they have done for you

  • asking friends or family how they are and really listening to their answer

  • offering to help at home

  • making a card for someone, writing a letter to a friend or family member

5. Pay attention to the present moment

Try this guided meditation. Take some time to focus on the present and use your senses to become aware of your surrounding environment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inpok4MKVLM

6. Watch your favourite film or a TV programme that makes you laugh. Read a book out in the sunshine.

7. Listen to a list of happy songs such as the ones in this playlist- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1llkez7kiZtBeOw5UjFlJq

8. Weaving well-being

There are plenty of other lovely ideas in this booklet here if you wish to take a look.

Whatever you decide to do I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunshine,

Take care,
